Reference Material Guidelines for Lockets and Miniatures
The paintings I make for lockets and miniatures usually have very simple compositions and are, obviously, very
small. Thus, the requirements for reference material for these pieces are significantly less complicated than those for my other commissioned works. Here's what you need to
know:
- The client is almost always responsible for supplying their own reference for these works. I'll let you
know if your piece is an exception after you've submitted an
inquiry.
- Reference material = at least 5 photos of each landscape or pet intended for a single locket/frame/etc.
- Photos of pets should include a clear, unobstructed view of the face under good lighting conditions.
- Photos of landscapes are best when they have high contrast. A photo of dark buildings against a light sky,
for instance, will make for a better locket than a photo of lush greenery that is all more or less the same
color and value.
You'll send me these reference photos via email or text once you've submitted an inquiry.
